Rich Lambert

Rich is the Content Lead for Zenimax Online Studios - a position in which he's responsible for the content team and the content in the game. His introduction into the industry was as a tester for Electronic Arts Canada in 1995. It was supposed to just be a summer job, between college semesters...thirteen years later, he's now worked on a number of high profile titles in varying capacities - most recently as a producer on Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3.

Favorite work related sleepless night:

Back in my testing days at EA, we decided that we'd rebuild the Great Wall of China out of soda cans as a means of keeping us sane during a particularly long stretch of crunching. It took us a few months to accomplish, but we had a huge wall of cans assembled that were several rows deep and 5 or 6 stacks high. It was a sight to see...a real tribute to mankind. Then one late night, we were playing volleyball across the wall...someone mis-hit the ball and well...we spent the rest of the night (and most of the next day) cleaning up soda cans and bits of sticky soda spills from all the hardware...GENIUS!

In EverQuest, would a Gnome ever really marry a Troll?

No way in heck! Never happen... Though my wife and I are living proof that a Gnome would marry an Ogre!

Do Canadians really make better game developers?

Of course they do...everything is always better in Canada!

What is your favorite gaming storytelling moment?

There are so many really good games out there that I've enjoyed over the years; it's hard to pick just one. There are two though, that really stand out:

First would be the waking of the Sleeper in EverQuest. We spent an entire weekend, on almost no sleep, working on being the first guild to wake the Sleeper. When we finally did it, we were treated to some interesting dialogue and several death touches before he just disappeared. A few minutes later, hundreds of random /tells started pouring in - most of which being multi expletive rants from people over the fact that the Sleeper was now running amok in several zones, killing every NPC and player in sight as payback for being banished to the Tomb in the first place.

The other standout moment for me is from World of Warcraft. The very first time we summoned Ragnaros in Molten Core was so awe inspiring. The whole event from the atmosphere and layout of the room, to the dialogue and voiceovers - everything was spot on and so well done. It was the first time in WoW that I really went…wow this is incredible.
