Mike Rea
Mike started his career in the industry in 1991 as a playtester for Microprose. His first product was Sid Mier's original "Civilization". From testing, he moved into designing, designing and producing several simulations including "1942 Task Force" & "The Pacific Air War". After 6 ½ years, Mike joined Meyer Glass Interactive (a.k.a. Day 1 Studios) where he was Producer / Designer on several projects. Then, he went on to BreakAway Games for just under 7 years and finished with the expansion to EA's Command & Conquer3 - "Kane's Wrath". His other projects included "LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth: The Rise of the Witch King" and "Austerlitz: Napoleon's Greatest Victory".
What got you started in MMOs?
I resisted the urge to play MMOs knowing what would happen once I started - I'd get hooked. Finally, my friends were able to convince me and I started with SWG. This quickly gave way to FFXI. As predicted, I fell hook line and sinker for the genre and have been playing ever since. I currently play both EQ2 & WOW, much to my wife's chagrin.
What was your first computer?
The 1st computer that I had growing up was the Commodore Vic 20 which I immediately jumped on and learned BASIC. From this humble beginning, I quickly moved onto the Tandy TRS80 with a cassette drive (talk about your fast load times, hehe). I now buy and assemble various components when getting a new system.
How many Lord of the Rings action figures can one producer own?
I currently own 23 action figures that hang from my office wall since the wife would not let me hang at home. I collected only the 1st two movies as the 3rd movie's figure quality dropped significantly in my opinion. In addition, I have a Gandalf figure and the Witch King's ride which Éowyn killed. Suffice to say I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan and was thrilled to have worked on the Battle for Middle Earth expansion.
