Andrew Boyd
Andrew Boyd has a decade of online game development experience for companies such as Kesmai Studios, Maxis, Electronic Arts, and Sony Online Entertainment. Most recently, Andrew was working on a next-gen MMO title at the SOE-Austin studio. Andrew has contributed to design and production on a number of teams, but the projects he is the most proud of are Multiplayer BattleTech: 3025 and PoppaZoppa.
Where'd your interest in modern architecture come from?
Maxis. While I was working on the "New & Improved Edition" for The Sims Online, I spent a lot of time reading furniture blogs. Seriously. I also spent a lot of time thinking about the most efficient route to the coffee maker.
What's a PoppaZoppa?
PoppaZoppa was a game that Jay Piette and I pitched back at Kesmai Studios. The original pitch involved sheets of bubble wrap, points, and monkeys, which I think are things that everyone liked. The original version went up on GameStorm and EA.com, but was taken off the service after the acquisition of Pogo. The crazy awesome thing was that the fans were so into the game, that they were able to successfully petition EA to bring it back as a Pogo title.
What's the best game you've played and loved that no one else has ever heard of?
Steel Battalion. I have the controller in my office. If there's a testament to the power of vision, persistence, and verisimilitude, it is the Steel Battalion controller. Brilliant. I also have a 3DO just for Star Control 2.
